Hair Transplantation
Hair Transplantation is one the procedures that is used to treat hair loss caused by male pattern baldness ( androgenetic alopecia). Hair Transplantation is also taken up in a few cases of scarring hair loss caused by certain inflammatory dermatological conditions/diseases. In hair transplant surgery the dermatosurgeon, transplants hair extracted from the occipital area (back of the head), beard or body to a bald area of the head.
Two main techniques are available for hair transplant, Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and Follicular unit extraction (FUE).
In Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) a strip of the scalp is removed and that is separated into follicular grafts and inserted into the bald area. A linear scar is left at the donor area. FUT method is preferred when large bald area needs to be covered.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a commonly done hair transplant procedure. It is scar-free procedure as it does not require sutures/stiches.
FUE is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure done under local anaesthesia, and the patient is conscious and comfortable throughout surgery, and it generally lasts for about 6 to 12 hours. Time taken for the procedure depends upon the number of hairs that are to be transplanted.
FUE involves three major steps .
1.Slit creation: This is the most crucial step in the process of FUE as it determines the angle and direction of the hair. Hair inserted in the right direction helps in giving that natural look post transplantation. The surgeon makes tiny slits (holes) with a needle on the scalp that is receiving the hair transplant.

3.Implantation: Our team implants the grafts in the recipient area with great precision.
In a conventional FUE method the grafts harvested remain outside the body for four to five hours and hence there is a chance of decreased survival of those grafts.
Direct Hair Transplant (DHT) is an advanced form of FUE. DHT involves simultaneous harvesting and implantation of grafts which help to enhance graft survival and give better outcome.
Results of hair transplant are fully appreciated between nine to twelve months. Once the hair regrows it looks natural as the hair is transplanted in the direction in which it normally grows.
